International Bareboat Skipper Certificate
The International Bareboat Skippers Certificate is aimed at providing you with the skills sufficient to take command of a vessel up to a maximum length of 78 feet/24m in coastal waters up to 20nm offshore in daylight hours and in fair conditions with moderate wind and sea conditions.
The course duration is 10 days and 10 nights liveaboard either Eureka II or Starlight with departures on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Pre-Requirements
This course requires you have completed the VHF-SRC Marine Radio Operators Certificate or you can complete this onboard during this course for an additional course fee.
Course Content
- An free pre-course online training component completed by the student before arriving
- Starts with a crew induction regarding all the safety equipment and how to use it correctly
- Nautical terms, the parts of the vessel and how the rig and sails are operated
- Pre-departure checks/mooring line handling and vessel departure techniques
- Correct anchoring procedures including mooring handling
- Safety drills such as Man Overboard
- Helming, basic sail setting
- Correct tacking and gybing procedures
- Introduction to the nautical chart
- Variation/Deviation and how it applies
- Basic Navigational techniques
- Basic meteorology
- Tides and currents
- Buoyage System
- Collision Regulations
- Navigational Lights
- Discussion of Basic First Aid
- Restricted visibility, heavy weather, negotiating harbor entrances
