Sailing Basics Adventure

If you’re right at the start of your learn to sail adventure on cruising yachts, then this is a great place to start and ‘get your feet wet’. The sailing basics course is a no pressure sailing adventure around the Whitsunday Islands where you’ll get involved in the sailing of vessel and get to ask all the questions you’re dying to know the answer to. You’ll spend time behind the helm, hoisting and dropping the sails and generally getting a feel for sailing to see if this is for you.

Course Content

  • Starts with a crew induction regarding all the safety equipment and how to use it correctly
  • Nautical terms, the parts of the vessel and how the rig and sails are operated
  • Correct anchoring procedures including mooring handling
  • Safety drills such as Man Overboard
  • Helming, basic sail setting
  • Correct tacking and gybing procedures
  • Introduction to the nautical chart
  • Basic Collision Regulations
  • Introduction to fringing coral reefs
